Delhi Faces Heavy Rain as IMD Issues Red Alert
IN · Published Aug 25, 2026
Heavy rainfall disrupted daily life in Delhi on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the region.
The alert warned of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall has caused significant disruptions in Delhi and surrounding areas. Waterlogging has led to severe traffic delays, with key roads in Gurugram becoming impassable. Schools and offices have been advised to shift to online operations to minimise risks. Flight diversions on Monday affected both domestic and international travellers, though no further disruptions were reported on Tuesday morning. The IMD attributes the intense rainfall to the interaction of dry northerly winds with moisture-laden easterly winds from a low-pressure system near West Bengal.
